Lafayette Animal Aid Receives Prestigious Award From National Leader in No-Kill Movement Lafayette Animal Aid received the Crusaders for Canines Award by Best Friends Animal Society®, the only national animal welfare organization dedicated exclusively to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. Lafayette Animal Aid (LAA) in Lafayette Parish is an active partner in Best Friends Animal Society’s No More Homeless Pets® Network* which offers help and support to animal rescue groups that save lives in their communities. With the help of nearly $13,000 in grants from Best Friends Animal Society, and a willingness to work cooperatively with local shelters, LAA has been able pull more than 420 animals from the shelters, spay/neuter them and put the animals up for adoption over the last two years, making significant year over year gains. Holly Sizemore, Best Friends Animal Society’s director of national programs said, “But the lifesaving work didn’t stop there. Today, Lafayette Animal Aid regularly pulls pets from fourteen shelters across the region and they are also now able to take fantastic photos of pets at the shelter, providing an opportunity for even more pets to find homes.” “It’s so humbling to be able to honor the people who give so much of their personal time, energies, and dedication to helping save the lives of homeless pets,” Sizemore said. “Truly, they inspire me every day and give me the confidence to know that we can save them all.” “We are honored to receive this award from such an amazing national rescue. We are fortunate to work with the optimistic, knowledgeable, and determined people of this field,” says Dr. Carley Faughn, the Executive Director of LAA. “Without the support and guidance from Best Friends, we would not be able to save the lives that we have. This is a team effort and each person plays a very important role. Thank you to everyone who dedicates their time to save them all, until they all have a home.” Lafayette Animal Aid http://lafayetteanimalaid.org is the largest animal rescue organization in the region.
