Three Rescue Dogs’ Journey to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

What an amazing experience it was to transport three of Lafayette Animal Aid’s longtime canine residents to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT! ChiChi (resident since 2007), Rose Marie (resident since 2014) and Danika (resident since 2014) were fantastic travel companions on our 25 hour journey to the West. I enjoyed some beautiful walks with them in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah; followed by some unforgettable snuggle sessions in our hotel rooms. I am pretty sure this was ChiChi’s first experience in a real bed. She appeared confused at first when I asked her to jump up, but after doing so and sniffing for a moment she quickly rolled on her back (as we have all seen her do frequently in the grass) and shake back and forth getting comfortable! She and Danika especially loved spending the night with me, snuggled up in the bed; they were always sure to be touching me throughout the night. Upon arrival to BFs, I was nervous as to how they would adjust, but these three girls quickly began making friends with their new caretakers! Everyone was talking excitedly about how adorable they are and how quickly they will be adopted. While it was bittersweet to say goodbye to our canine friends, I drove away relieved, knowing that they truly have it made now.   Everyone I met at BFs was so genuine and eager to make their transition as smooth as possible and had studied the videos I sent of each of the girls with great detail. It was as if they (almost) knew these girls as well and we do; they already knew exactly what dog runs they would eventually be moved into and who would be their new canine friends. I was again relieved when I learned of where Rose Marie had already been moved to. She is in a run with about 4 other dogs, one of which is also a beagle and used to be as shy as she is. I was told that the other beagle immediately approached her and provided reassurance as if he was communicating to her that he used to be like her but she’s in a good place and there’s nothing to fear. They are already inseparable. I know that these sweet girls will never forget everyone at LAA that made their life worth living and I very much appreciate all of the love and care that each of YOU gave to them and to everyone else that crosses through the doors of Lafayette Animal Aid. Rest assured, these girls are happy and will soon be in their furever homes! Until they all have a home- Carley, Executive Director, LAA
