Happy New Year Everyone! We had a fantastic year of saving lives in 2014 and we are excited to continue moving forward with our progress in 2015. In 2014, Lafayette Animal Aid experienced many changes, from welcoming our community into our shelter through various programs (many in the cat wing) to the addition of our wonderful Florida transport for dogs. Our new program with the Florida transport of dogs to other no-kill rescues has allowed us to save 179 more lives, in addition to the animals we placed in loving homes. We have stretched our out-of-state adoptions to now include Colorado, Texas, Alabama, and other southern states while continuing our adoptions in the Northeast. What I find extremely exciting is the number of wonderful homes we have found in Acadiana. For the first time in a long time we have consistently welcomed our community to complete adoption applications for our dogs and followed up with every single applicant to determine who can provide a loving, lifelong home for our rescued dogs. In the past few months our cat adoptions have skyrocketed! In just 3 months we have had 50 cat adoptions and our staff is diligent about following up with our adopters to ensure all the cats’ needs are being met and that everyone is happy. I am so thrilled to be a part of this wonderful team in truly making a difference. Our community is learning more about Lafayette Animal Aid through our education programs, our Kitty-Litter-A-Ture program, our monthly Cat Open House, and our frequent weekends at PetSmart; not to mention our annual Bark in the Dark and Bark in the Park events that draw our community out for a good time with our four-legged friends! Everyone at LAA plays such a critical role in saving lives, nurturing the lives we have saved, and educating our community about pet overpopulation. So, thank you to each of you for what you do for the animals of Acadiana and Lafayette Animal Aid.

Now here comes the exciting year-end report of exactly how many lives LAA has saved and a nice comparison to our previous year’s success. Great job everyone and Happy New Year!!!
